Sono una persona molto schietta e genuina, un po’ irruente a volte, curiosa e innamorata della vita. Cerco sempre di vedere il lato positivo delle cose e di imparare qualcosa di nuovo. Ho una volontà di ferro, resilienza e persistenza sono sempre state le mie parole d’ordine. Ma dietro ad un aspetto forte e sicuro sono anche molto sensibile. Credo fortemente che per poter ridere al 100% bisogna anche saper piangere al 100% e in me vedo molto chiara questa co-esitenza di “opposti”. Amo le cose semplici, più’ sono semplici e più le trovo raffinate e complesse, affascinanti. Alterno momenti di grande socialità a momenti di solitudine: so bastare a me stesso e mi piace circondarmi solamente delle persone che mi fanno stare bene. Sono perfettamente a mio agio nel silenzio e trovo che in esso vi sia una forma di comunicazione molto più forte ed efficace che nell’uso di mille parole. Cammino moltissimo: camminare è la mia meditazione. Ho avuto la fortuna di nascere e crescere in una famiglia solida, anche severa a volte, circondato da amore, rispetto e fiducia. Questi valori sono stati, sono e sempre saranno i pilastri su cui mi appoggio per affrontare il mondo e la vita. Ho un animo pionieristico, spesso sono sempre “il primo” a fare una determinata cosa, ad andare per la via meno esplorata e pensare fuori dagli schemi. Non mi piacciono le scorciatoie, credo nella meritocrazia e nei risultati derivanti dal lavoro sodo, nell’umiltà ma anche nell’assertività. Vivo con la serenità che non si può piacere a tutti e che a volte è necessario fare scelte impopolari. Faccio sempre molta attenzione ai dettagli delle cose, che trovo importantissimi soprattutto per fare la differenza, ma non sono malato di perfezionismo: cerco di dare il massimo a seconda però delle circostanze in cui mi trovo dentro e al di fuori di me stesso e sono perfettamente cosciente che queste sono di volta in volta mutevoli.
Christian, tell us about yourself, who is Christian Vit as a person?
I’m an extremely straightforward and genuine individual, a bit hot-headed sometimes, curious and in love with life. I always try to see the positive side of things and to learn something new. I have an iron will, resiliency and perseverance have always been my watchwords. But besides a strong and self confident facade I’m also very sensitive. I strongly believe that in order to be capable of laughing 100% we also have to learn what crying 100% means and I can totally see this coexistence of opposites within myself. I love simple things, the more simple they are and the more I find them refined and complex, fascinating. I alternate sociable moments with moments of solitude: I like to enjoy my own company and I like to surround myself only with those people that have a positive energy and make me feel good. I’m perfectly at my ease in the silence and I think that it has the power to communicate way more strongly and effectively than using a thousand words. I walk a lot: walking is my meditation. I have been lucky to be born and raised in a rock solid family, very strict too sometimes, surrounded by love, respect and trust. These value have been, are and alway will be the pillars on which I stand to stay in the world and live my life. I’m a pioneer, i’m very often “the first” to do something, to take the less travelled route and to think out of the box. I don’t like shortcuts, I believe in meritocracy and in the results that only the hard work can deliver, I believe in humbleness but also in assertiveness. I’m at peace with the fact that you can’t be liked by everyone and I’m not afraid of making unpopular decisions. I pay a lot of attention to details in everything I do, I think they are extremely important to make the difference but at the same time I’m not sick of perfectionism: I try to make the most out of the circumstances I find myself in, considering of course how the conditions within myself and outside myself are in the moment, and I’m perfectly conscious that they are changing all the time.
Descriva il suo giorno lavorativo perfetto….
Il mio giorno lavorativo perfetto inizia la mattina molto presto: una macchina passa a prendermi tra le 5:00 e le 6:00 del mattino, arriviamo al campo base, vengo accolto e naturalmente la prima parola che proferisco dopo aver salutato è “Caffè”. I vestiti di scena mi stanno già aspettando nel camerino che mi è stato assegnato, mi cambio, vengo portato al reparto trucco, via le occhiaie, sistemata ai capelli e “voila’ ”: pronto per girare. A seconda delle scene che si devono girare la permanenza sul set varia da alcune ore alla giornata intera, spesso con lunghissime attese che, nel mio caso, vengono consumate con brevi “pennichelle” per mantenere alto il livello di energia. A parte tutto ciò, la giornata lavorativa si può secondo me definire “perfetta” quando nel momento in cui si girano le scene tutto scorre con naturalezza e armonia. Quando c’è un sincero scambio umano e un’ottima intesa con i colleghi con i quali si recita e con il regista, quando si crea quella complicità speciale e quel lavoro di squadra che sono insostituibili per la creazione di qualcosa di grande e unico. Quando durante le scene si respira un silenzio caldo di approvazione e ammirazione da parte di tutti i presenti e non un silenzio freddo di disappunto. So che la giornata è andata bene quando sulla via del ritorno verso casa mi sento felicemente stanco e stupito positivamente di quello che sono riuscito a fare.
Describe you perfect day at work
My perfect day at work starts very early in the morning: a car arrives to pick me up between 5.00am and 6:00am, we arrive on the set’s base camp and my first word after the “Good morning” is coffee, of course. Costumes are already in the trailer that has been assigned to me, I get changed and then I’m ready to be taken to the chair at the make up and hair department. A bit of concealer to remove my eye puffs, a little adjustment to my hair and voilà, ready for the shooting. According to the number of scenes I have to shoot of course my presence on set may vary from a few hours to the whole day, often with long waitings in between the scenes that I personally transform in chances for me to take power-naps in order to restore and maintain a good level of energy. Besides all that, a day at work can be called perfect when it happens that the filming goes nicely and smoothly. When there is a nice human interaction and great chemistry between actors and with the director, when that special empathy and a great team work get to be created and they are both irreplaceable for the creation of something great and unique. When during the filming you can sense a warm silence of admiration and approval and not a cold one of disappointment. I know that a day at work has been perfect when on my way home I feel tired but happy and positively surprised of what I’ve been able to accomplish on the day with my acting.
Come nasce il suo amore per la recitazione.
Io credo che non sia l’attore a scegliere di recitare ma sia la recitazione a scegliere chi debba fare l’attore. E’ come ricevere una “chiamata”. Fare l’attore per me è una vocazione, oltre che una passione, e nel mio caso è accaduta cosi’:. avevo fatto delle recite a scuola quando ero piccolo e ricordo che erano state esperienze che mi erano piaciute ma il momento “catartico” è arrivato quando mi sono imbattuto in un set cinematografico dalle parti della città di Vicenza dove ero andato a fare una passeggiata con i miei genitori. Siamo arrivati nel momento in cui gli attori stavano girando una scena di duello con la spada, era un film in costume, anche se la scena avveniva ad una certa distanza dai passanti si poteva comunque vedere bene quello che stava accadendo. Ricordo chiaramente che le mie gambe hanno iniziato a tremare e mi sono sentito pervaso da un senso di euforia mista a gioia e curiosità che all’epoca non riuscivo a spiegare. Quella sensazione è rimasta con me per giorni. Negli anni a venire questa “fiamma” che quel giorno si è accesa dentro di me è cresciuta e mi ha aiutato a sentire e a capire quello che dovevo fare. I primi studi di recitazione al Centro Teatro Attivo di Milano assieme alle prime esperienze nella pubblicità e nel cinema mentre facevo gli studi universitari; il trovarmi a passare quasi ogni giorno in mezzo a set cinematografici di altissimo livello per raggiungere l’ufficio della Camera di Commercio Italiana di Vancouver dove ero stato mandato per uno stage dopo la laurea; fino a lasciare il tanto ambito posto fisso in una multinazionale per trasferirmi a Roma e rispondere finalmente e seriamente alla mia “chiamata”.
Where does your passion for acting come from?
I don’t think that is the actor that chooses to act, I think that is acting to choose who has to be an actor. It’s like receiving a call. Being an actor for me is a vocation, besides a passion, and that’s my story: I had the chance to play in a few school recitals when I was a kid and I remember that I really enjoyed those experiences but the “cathartic” moment happened when I bumped into a movie set nearby the city of Vicenza where I happened by chance to go for a visit with my parents. We arrived right when the actors were filming a broadsword fighting scene, it was a period drama, even if the scene was happening a little far away from where we were standing I could clearly see what was going on. I remember that at some point my legs started to shake and I felt pervaded by a strong sense of excitement mixed with joy and curiosity I never experienced before and I couldn’t explain. That feeling stayed with me for days. In the following years that”flame” that has been ignited that day inside me has been growing and has helped me to sense and understand what I had to do. The first acting classes in Milan at the Centro Teatro Attivo and the first experiences in commercials and movies while I was still studying at the Uni, me passing almost everyday through different amazing movie sets to reach the office of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vancouver , where I was sent for an internship after getting my master’s degree in Public Relations. Me leaving a proper steady and permanent job position in a multinational company to relocate to Rome to pursue a professional acting career and finally taking my “call”.
Quali sono i personaggi artistici dai quali si sente maggiormente influenzato o da quali trae ispirazione?
Ci sarebbe una lunga lista di personaggi presenti e passati da cui traggo ispirazione ma per citarne qualcuno:
Daniel Day Lewis per la dedizione e la capacità nell’ immergersi totalmente nelle condizioni che servono a creare il personaggio. Credo sia una delle massime espressioni (spesso anche estreme ) di quello che viene definito “il metodo”.
Fabrice Luchini per la sua capacità di comunicare attraverso i silenzi e le pause. I suoi personaggi riescono ad essere estremamente vivi ed efficaci proprio nei momenti in cui sono zitti e fermi.
Tony Servillo per lo spessore umano dei suoi personaggi e l’apparente semplicità con cui regala interpretazioni di una classe e raffinatezza infinite come il suo monologo ne “La grande Bellezza” che non mi stancherò mai di ascoltare.
Anche se fino ad ora la mia carriera mi ha presentato più opportunità nell’ambito televisivo e cinematografico, trovo che la forma più pura ed immediata della recitazione si manifesti a teatro. A questo punto non posso non citare il maestro Eduardo De Filippo e il giorno in cui ho ascoltato una delle sue interviste in cui affermava che “Il teatro si fa con il gelo”! Quelle parole mi sono arrivate con tutta la loro “gravitas” e tutto il loro significato di quanto impegno, disciplina, dedizione e sacrificio siano necessari per raggiungere dei risultati eccellenti come i suoi.
Who are the artists you feel more inspired by?
There is quite a few actors, active in the present and in the past, I get inspiration from for my acting craft, to give some names:
Daniel Day lewis for his impeccable dedication and capability to live properly and deeply all the conditions needed to create a great character. I think he represents the maximum expression (sometimes extreme) of what is called “The Method”.
Fabrice Luchini for his ability to communicate through silences and pauses. His characters can be extremely lively and effective exactly in the moments when they are just still and silent.
Tony Servillo for the human depth of the character he creates and the apparent simplicity and smoothness he is able to deliver such elegant and refined performances with, as the monologue in “The Great Beauty” that will never get old.
Despite my career at the moment has been characterised by having had more opportunities to play in television and movie projects, I find that the Theatre is the purest and the most immediate form of acting expression. That said I can’t avoid mentioning the master Eduardo De Filippo, of course. I was listening to one of his interviews and I remember him saying that “stage acting requires being cold as ice” Those words hit me with all their “gravitas” and all their meaning of how much effort, dedication, discipline and sacrifice are necessary to achieve outstanding results as his.
Che cosa vuol dire per Lei portare sullo schermo un buon personaggio?
Lavorare ad un qualsiasi progetto televisivo, cinematografico e anche teatrale implica sempre un lavoro di squadra. L’attore ci mette “la faccia” ed interpreta è vero ma allo stesso tempo è vitale e necessario che le altre figure presenti sul set (o in teatro), dal regista al direttore della fotografia, al fonico, al montatore ecc diano il loro contributo e si prendano le proprie responsabilità. Certo, per quanto riguarda la parte che mi compete, nel momento in cui ho la sensazione di aver girato le mie scene in perfetta e armonica “connessione” con il mio personaggio e con i miei colleghi diciamo che ho la coscienza a posto: sono sicuro di aver fatto un buon lavoro e sono soddisfatto. Con l’esperienza però mi sono reso conto che appunto questo non basta, affinché un buon personaggio prenda vita sullo schermo è necessario lo sforzo artistico da parte di tutti i reparti.
What does it mean for you to play and create a good character on the screen?
Being part of a television, movie and also theatrical project means always being part of the result of a team work. The actor put his face on the project and performs that’s true but at the same time it’s vital and necessary that all the other professionals on set (or in theatre), the director, the DOP, the sound, the editor etc… give all their contribution and take responsibility for what they do. As regards the acting part, as I feel my scenes have been filmed with me deeply and harmoniously connected to my character and my colleagues let’s say I’m at peace with myself and happy. I’m sure I did a good job and I’m satisfied. But with the experience I understood that this alone is not enough, in order for a great character to be lively and great on the screen the artistic effort of all the departments is required.
Quali sono i lavori a cui si sente maggiormente legato?
Uno dei primi lavori a cui ho partecipato nella mia carriera è stato un film sulla vita di Don Umberto Terenzi, il fondatore del santuario de “Il Divino Amore” a Roma. Le riprese sono durate circa 1 anno e mezzo tra mille peripezie e continui viaggi in scooter dal centro di Roma lungo la trafficatissima Ardeatina. Il progetto non è mai stato distribuito né sul grande nè sul piccolo schermo, è diventato un DVD messo in vendita al santuario e si può vedere in 2 parti su Youtube. Conservo con amore i ricordi di quella esperienza sicuramente “sofferta” e di tutte persone e i colleghi che ho incontrato all’epoca. Dei bellissimi paesaggi di campagna dove sono avvenute le riprese e in particolare del giorno della proiezione in cui alla fine del film una signora che non conoscevo è venuta piangendo a ringraziarmi dicendo che le avevo ricordato tantissimo il vero Don Umberto. Mi sono emozionato e per me quella è stata la vera ricompensa per tutto il lavoro fatto. Game of Thrones è stato il mio inizio sul mercato internazionale, il mio primo passo, come poter dimenticarlo. E’ stata sicuramente un’esperienza unica e indimenticabile. Holby City mi ha fatto capire che recitare in una lingua straniera e lavorare con un cast locale che lavorava affiatato già da tempo senza “suonare troppo fuori dal coro” per me era cosa possibile. Soprattutto ha “certificato” che il mio livello di inglese è idoneo ad apparire in prima serata su un canale come la BBC e non solo per uno ma per ben 44 episodi. E’ stata la mia prima esperienza di lunga serialità e lì ho imparato moltissimo.
Which are the projects you feel more connected to?
One of the first projects I took part of when I started my career was a movie about the life of Father Umberto Terenzi, funder of the “Divine Love” sanctuary in Rome. The filming went on for almost 1 and 1/2 years amongst a lot of difficulties and continues trips by scooter from the city centre along the very jam packed Ardeatina road. The project has never been broadcast on the television and never had a movie distribution either, it became a DVD sold in the sanctuary to the pilgrims. and a movie in 2 parts on Youtube. I have such vivid and lovely memories of that suffered experience and of all the people I met and the colleagues I worked with at that time. Memories of those beautiful country landscapes in the locations where we filmed and particularly of the day of the official screening: at the end of the movie an elderly lady who I never met before came to me crying and thanking me saying that I played a very compelling Father Umberto Terenzi and I very much reminded her of him with my performance. I got emotional too and for me that was the best reward I had for all that acting job done.
Game of Thrones has marked my beginning in the international arena, my first step, how could I ever forget it. It has certainly been a unique and unforgettable experience to me.
Holby City had me to understand that acting in a different language and joining a local cast who has been working together for a while without sounding too different it was something possible for me as an actor. This show has validated the fact that my English is good enough for me to be appearing on a prime time BBC1 show and not only for 1 but for 44 episodes. It has been my first experience in a long run tv show and I’ve learned a lot.
Che messaggio dà oggi il mondo dell’arte?
Trovo che il mondo dell’arte sia sempre in fermento e alla continua ricerca di nuove forme di espressione e comunicazione creative. Spesso fondendo discipline e generi diversi. Lo sviluppo della tecnologia ha sicuramente contribuito a rendere ogni forma d’arte più immediata e accessibile ma nello tesso tempo ha reso gli utenti più informati ed esigenti. Si sono sviluppati mercati e piattaforme molto più competitive, specifiche e globali. La preparazione dell’artista è sicuramente ancora importantissima ma non basta più, questa deve essere integrata con la capacità di essere presente in ogni parte del globo, di indirizzarsi ad un pubblico sempre più specifico, avere una visione in grado di anticipare gusti e tempi e sopratutto da una originalità e unicità che siano veramente forti e distintive. Oggi più che mai, secondo me, il messaggio dell’arte è “pensare fuori dagli schemi” e non avere paura di “infrangere intelligentemente le regole”.
What message is art giving today?
I think the art world is always in turmoil and continuously seeking for new creative ways of expressing itself and communicating. Often merging together different artistic disciplines and genres. Technological innovations have certainly contributed to make every form of art more immediate and accessible but at the same time made the audience much more knowledgeable and demanding. Much more competitive, specific and global new markets and platforms has come to life . The preparation of an artist is still very important but is not enough, that must be integrated with his capability of having a presence almost everywhere in the world , to address a public that is becoming more and more specific, to anticipate trends and to own very strong and distinctive artistic connotations being as much unique as possible. Today more than ever, in my opinion, the message that art is giving is of “Thinking out of the box” and don’t be afraid of “breaking the rules cleverly”
Cambierebbe qualcosa nel mondo del cinema, del teatro e della televisione, nei quali si è formato?
Da quando ho iniziato la mia carriera mi sono spesso trovato, e ancora mi trovo, ad affrontare vere e proprie barriere all’entrata di tutti e tre i settori per riuscire ad avere una possibilità. Soprattutto negli ultimi anni però mi sto accorgendo che queste barriere si stanno progressivamente abbassando: la continua esigenza e richiesta di creazione di nuovi contenuti sta facendo in modo che soprattutto in ambito televisivo e cinematografico sia necessario aprirsi ad un maggior numero di artisti e figure del settore. E questo secondo me è un cambiamento positivo perché da’ visibilità e possibilità a nuovi talenti.
Would you change anything in the movie, theatrical and television environments where you started your career?
Since I’ve started my acting career I often found myself, and I still do find myself, to face and overcome very solid entry barriers in the entertainment industry in order to be given a chance. But in the most recent years I’m noticing that these entry barriers are slowly opening more than they used to do: now there is a very strong request and need ofor new contents creation and development and this means more jobs avalable for actors and other professionals in the industry. I believe this is a good thing as it gives exposure and chances for new talents to be discovered.
C’è spazio in Italia per giovani attori talentuosi ?
La sviluppo della carriera di un attore, e di un artista in genere, è sempre caratterizzato da singolarità e unicità. Un attore secondo me deve cercare di creare e di mettersi in tutte le condizioni e situazioni che possano permettergli di avere la possibilità di essere visto ma queste sono imprevedibili. In Italia le produzioni cinematografiche, televisive e teatrali ci sono e c’è anche potenzialmente lo spazio per gli attori talentuosi ma poi sta veramente all’attore stesso il compito di capire dove è meglio per lui investire il suo talento, di sentire dove andarsi a creare e a cercare le condizioni di cui ho appena parlato.
Is there room in Italy for young talented actors?
An actor’s career, as the one of an artist in general, , usually develop in a very subjective and unique way. In my opinion an actor has to try to create and put himself in all those conditions and situations where he can get the chance of being seen but these are unpredictable. There are in Italy good movie, television and theatrical productions and potentially there is aroom for young talented actors but it is really up to the actor himself to understand where it’s worth for him to invest his time and talent and to sense where to create and seek for those conditions and situations that I mentioned before.
Che cosa è troppo serio per scherzarci su?
Credo che nulla sia troppo serio per scherzarci su, soprattutto quando lo scherzo è intelligente. La capacità di scherzare e ironizzare, di non prendersi e non prendere le cose troppo sul serio, ritengo sia molto importante per affrontare la vita. Una volta un amico mi disse “la situazione è grave ma non è seria”: è come se lo scherzo riuscisse in qualche modo ad alleggerire il peso delle cose, a renderle più umane e vicine a noi e a farcele affrontare, capire ed accettare anche quando sembrano infinitamente grandi, complesse e difficili. Lo scherzo umanizza e semplifica le cose e le situazioni.
What is it too serious to be joked about?
I think in life nothing is too serious to be joked about, especially when the joke is clever. Being able to joke and be ironic about something, not to take ourselves and the things that happen to us too seriously I believe is a great way to live life. A friend of mine once told me “the situation is bad but is not serious”: the joke is able to make everything lighter, more human and close to us it makes easier for us understanding and accepting things even when they seem huge, complex and difficult. The joke humanises and simplifies things and situations.
Il rapporto con la sua città Natale.
Venezia è una città unica e magica, quando vado a trovare i miei genitori cerco sempre di trovare un momento per una camminata da solo tra calli e campielli per riconnettermi con le mie radici. Mi piace perdermi e ritrovarmi durante la mie passeggiate, c’è sempre qualcosa di nuovo e di diverso da vedere e scoprire . Mi piacerebbe molto sia girare un progetto a Venezia che presentare un film come interprete al Festival del Cinema di Venezia. Sono due sogni nel cassetto che spero si realizzino presto.
The relationship with your home town
Venice is a very unique and magical city, when I go to visit my parents I always try to find sometimes for a walk by myself through its little streets and squares to reconnect with my roots. I love getting lost and find myself again during my walks , there is always something new for me to see and discover. I’d love to film a project in Venice as much as to be in a movie presented at the Venice film festival. These are two dreams that I hope they soon come true.
Lei ha lavorato nel 2014 ha lavorato nella serie tv Game of Thrones , ci può raccontare questa esperienza?
Ero appena arrivato a Londra, avevo rimesso in discussione tutta la mia vita e avevo veramente bisogno di un segnale di conferma e di incoraggiamento: Game of Thrones è stato quel segnale. E’ arrivato inaspettato, forte e carico di tutta la grandiosità che quella serie televisiva è stata capace di generare. Ricordo che quando andai a fare il provino mi chiesero almeno 10 volte se sapevo andare a cavallo e se era un problema che tutte le scene del mio personaggio fossero girate a cavallo. Quando il ruolo mi fu confermato, da un lato ero contentissimo per avere vinto il provino, dall’altro questa storia del cavallo iniziò a preoccuparmi e passai un’intera serata a guardare video molto tecnici per rinfrescare le mie nozioni di equitazione.
La produzione aveva base a Belfast, dove sono stato mandato inizialmente per la prova costume. Il mio costume di scena era appeso nel mezzo di una grande stanza e sembrava qualcosa di sacro. Degli assistenti mi hanno aiutato ad indossarlo e per me quello è stato un momento veramente magico. Sono un amante dei film in costume e anche se spesso si dice che “l’abito non fa il monaco”, beh in quel caso dava un grande aiuto. Sono poi stato mandato ad un centro di equitazione per fare una prova a cavallo, meno male che avevo guardato i video la sera precedente…… scherzi a parte ogni dettaglio era stato minuziosamente organizzato. Le mie scene sono state girate a Port Stewart, una località sul mare a 2 ore e 1/2 di macchina da Belfast, famosa per la lunga spiaggia e le grandi dune di sabbia. Una volta arrivato mi hanno presentato i membri del cast con cui avrei girato le scene e il regista. Abbiamo fatto un po’ di prove e poi abbiamo iniziato. C’erano tantissime persone sul set e tutto era organizzato come un orologio svizzero. Ero nel mio elemento, mi sentivo forte e sicuro. Nonostante in quelle zone il tempo sia molto variabile, il sole è rimasto alto e chiaro nel cielo tutti i giorni seguenti, le scene sono state girate senza intoppi e mi sono goduto ogni singolo momento. Naturalmente quando poi mesi dopo ho visto l’episodio l’emozione è stata forte.
In 2014 you played in Game of Thrones, can you tell us about this experience?
I had just arrived in London at that time, my personal and professional life was going through big changes and I really needed a clear sign to validate and support all the choices I was making. Game of Thrones was that sign, It arrived unexpectedly, strong and carrying with itself all the greatness that has been able to create as a show. I remember that when I was called in for the audition I’ve been asked at least 10 times if I was happy for all my scenes to be shot with me on a horseback. When I got confirmed for the role, I was very excited and happy on one side but on the other side I started to worry about the horse back thing. Therefore I spent the whole evening watching very technical horse back riding tutorials on Youtube to refresh my knowledge.
Production was based in Belfast, where I went the first time for the costume fitting. My costume was hanging in the middle of a room like something sacred. Some assistants helped me to get dressed and for me that was a magical moment. I love period dramas and even if it’s often said that “the suit doesn’t make the man”, well, in that case I have to say it helped a lot. After the fitting I was sent to a horse back riding school to test my riding skills, thank God I watched the tutorials the night before……. jokes aside, everything was extremely well organised.
I filmed my scenes in Port Stewart, a location by the sea 2 and 1/2 hours by car far from Belfast, popular for its long beach and it’s big sand’s dunes. Once I’ve arrived there on set I got introduced to the other cast members I was meant to play the scenes with. We did some rehearsals and then we started. There were a lot of professionals on set from different departments and everything was working precisely as a clockwork. I was in my element, I felt strong and confident. Besides in that region the weather is very changeable we were blessed with very hot and sunny conditions for all the following days and we filmed my scenes flawlessly, I enjoyed and loved every moment. Of course when I saw the episode a few month later on the television that was very exciting.

Una bellissima opportunità. L’esperienza in “Game of Thrones” ha iniziato a dare al mio curriculum un respiro internazionale e mi ha fatto capire che ero nella direzione giusta affinché quelle opportunità di cui parlavo prima potessero per me manifestarsi.
A nice opportunity for an Italian actor that just moved to London
An amazing opportunity I would say. The experience in Game of Thrones started to give my résumé an international appeal and made me understand that I was in the right direction for me to receive and to have manifested those opportunities i was mentioning before.

Diciamo che la mia partecipazione a “Game of Thrones” ha sicuramente aggiunto un elemento di prestigio al mio Curriculum e ha iniziato a darmi una certa credibilità sul mercato internazionale, ma la messa in onda dell’episodio è avvenuta la primavera successiva alle riprese, dopo che fossi già stato scelto per il ruolo sia in “Crossing Lines che in “The Job Lot”. E’ stato quando mi hanno scelto per il ruolo fisso in Holby City che la mia partecipazione a Game of Thrones è stata uno degli elementi che secondo me ha giocato a mio favore.

It is undeniable that my role in Game of Thrones has added a great credit to my résumé and has started to create a credibility of me as an actor in the international arena, but my episode was aired in the spring of 2015, after I was cast in Crossing lines and in The Job Lot. It was when I was running for the role as a regular for Holby City that I think my Game of Thrones appearance played, amongst other elements, a crucial role for me to be chosen.
Il lavoro al tempo del “coronavirus” come stanno rispondendo gli artisti a questa emergenza virale ed umanitaria che ha colpito l’Italia e il mondo intero...
Personalmente ho passato il periodo del lock-down in totale isolamento ma anche creativamente impegnato. Ho letto diversi copioni e preparato provini e monologhi che mi sono stati richiesti di filmare per progetti futuri. Sono stato coinvolto in una mini serie gitrata a distanza chiamata “Sins of solitude” che è uscita in questi giorni su Youtube. Ho pensato molto, ho fatto delle valutazioni su ciò che stava funzionando e ciò che doveva essere cambiato nel mio percorso, ho fantasticato, visualizzato e sognato possibili scenari futuri staccandomi un po’ dal presente. Penso che gli artisti in questo periodo, sicuramente non facile, abbiano avuto e ancora abbiano la possibilità di mettersi o ri-mettersi in contatto con il lato più forte e puro della loro creatività riuscendo in molti casi ad essere comunque artisticamente prolifici.
The work during Coronavirus, how do you think artists have been responding to this emergency that has been spreading all over the world?
I personally spent the whole lockdown time in complete self isolation but also creative I have to say. I’ve been very busy reading scripts, self taping for auditions and preparing monologue to film for future projects. I’ve been involved in a web series that we shot remotely, named “Sins of Solitude” that has just been released on Youtube . I’ve been thinking a lot, considering what has been serving me so far and what has been not and needed to be changed, I fantasied, visualised and dreamed of future scenarios detaching myself a bit from the present. I think artists in this time, certainly tough, have had and are still having the opportunity to connect or re-connect with the purest and strongest side of their creativity and in many cases have been able to be artistically prolific.
I suoi prossimi impegni?
Mi sono stati proposti alcuni progetti televisivi e cinematografici, da girare su Londra e in altri paesi Europei tra la fine dell’estate e la primavera prossima. Naturalmente, vista la situazione, non so ancora nulla di quando inizieranno effettivamente le riprese e quale di questi andrà in produzione per primo. Uno di questi progetti è ambientato a Roma e visto che manco dalla “città eterna” ormai da diversi anni, sarebbe certamente un grandissimo piacere per me tornare per alcune settimane nel posto dove ho iniziato a muovere i primi passi della mia carriera.
Your next projects?
I’ve got offered a few television and movie projects, to be shot in London and in other European countries between next autumn and the spring 2021. Of course, considering the whole situation, I still don’t have a clue of which one will start filming or will get into production first. One of these projects is meant to be filmed in Rome and considering I haven’t been to the Eternal City for years, it would be a great pleasure for me getting back to work for a few weeks in the place where i started to take my first steps as an actor.
